We're using JavaScript to change a multi-billion dollar industry

MarkITx is a growing startup looking for a full stack engineer to help us build web apps that will track, value and trade the world's IT hardware. We've got significant traction and funding, and have built one of the best teams in Chicago.

We're pragmatists, not purists. We try to use the right technology for the job, with familiarity being a tie breaker. In the browser, that includes Backbone, Handlebars, LESS and React.js. On the server, that includes Node.js, Express, ElasticSearch and a slew of AWS services.

You'll craft readable, maintainable code that delivers a great user experience and a solid back end. You’ll be responsible for working with data in DynamoDB, to writing simple JSON APIs, to implementing front-end functionality. We are all self-driven people who get stuff done. You’ll collaborate with us asynchronously using GitHub and chat. You’ll ship several times a day, including your first day using our fully automated test and deployment infrastructure.

  • Significant experience with JavaScript application development
  • Experience building, testing and debugging modern web apps
  • Experience building and consuming RESTful APIs
  • Experience with JS frameworks and libraries (we use Node.js, Backbone and React)
  • Familiarity with version control systems & issue trackers (we use GitHub)

You must be eligible to work in the US. We're open to remote work for the right candidate.

  • Great work environment in downtown Chicago
  • Amazing colleagues with no ego problems
  • Competitive salary + equity
  • A MacBook Pro and two Thunderbolt displays
  • Health insurance
  • Gym membership
  • Ability to work remotely

MarkITx is an online exchange for buying and selling IT hardware (anything that goes into a data center). We are disrupting the $312 billion secondary IT market and helping to make sure that equipment gets reused, not just recycled. We do that by bringing simplicity and transparency to a process that is currently painful, ugly and untrustworthy.

We’ve recently been covered in Fortune, Slashdot and Entrepreneur.

Our culture is driven by a simple constraint: every colleague we add should make the rest of the team happier and better at their own jobs. That means talent density grows as we grow. It means we have zero tolerance for ego-driven BS. It means we’re in awe of what our colleagues are capable of. It means we have complete autonomy to identify and solve the problems in our domain. It means we care more about the win than we do about who did what to get us there.
