TeamSnap is hiring an Android mobile app developer. Mobile is a huge part of what we do, and you’ll be driving our Android development efforts! Buckle up.

TeamSnap is an award-winning mobile and web service for managing ongoing activities including recreational and competitive sports teams, social groups, and other organizations. With seven million enthusiastic customers in 195 countries, TeamSnap is the largest and fastest-growing team and group management solution on the planet.

What You’ll Be Doing

As part of our mobile applications team, you’ll help take our existing Android app and make it more wonderful. Your mission will be to make sure that our app features work the way Android users expect them to. You’ll work with our Ruby development team, who manage our API, to make sure that they’re giving you the API calls that you need to accomplish your goals. You’ll also work with our iOS development group to trade ideas and push each other to new levels of mobile awesomeness. You should have a vision for what it means to build amazing apps on Android, across different screen sizes, device types, and OS versions. And you’ll have a great deal of latitude to help us figure out the best ways to have the best Android sports app in the store.

Some things that are pretty important to us:

  • Experience with a wide range of Android SDK versions, from 2.3 on up.
  • Knowledge of a variety of Android devices, from cheap knock-off phones to the latest tablets and everything in between.
  • The ability to interface with a REST/JSON API.
  • Some degree of User Experience ability - we have designers on staff, but want you to have a vision on how to make the best Android apps that we can.
  • Sense of humor and a strong desire to post funny FAIL pictures in our chat rooms.
  • Experience implementing useful caching, scaling, and performance improvements on Android.
  • Contacts in the Android development community, so that you’re up on the latest best practices and technology.
  • A customer-focused attitude, with an ability and willingness to work with customers to diagnose and fix problems.
  • Big ideas and a tiny ego. Tiny Eggo™ optional. We’ll accept waffles of any size.
  • The ability to work within an existing codebase.

Other things that would be nice to have:

  • Involvement in youth or adult recreational sports, as a player, parent or coach. We’d love for you to know what our users want out of mobile apps.
  • Automated testing of your Android code.
  • Experience developing for quasi-Android platforms, like the Kindle Fire and Blackberry 10.
  • Some working knowledge of iOS development (so you can collaborate with our iOS developers).
  • Experience with Gradle build automation
  • Free Superbowl tickets for all your co-workers (hey, we can dream).
  • Graphic design and layout ability.
  • The ability to read and understand Ruby (the language of our API and web framework).
  • Experience with git and Github as a version control tool.
  • A strong vision for what you think good Android apps can be, coupled with a willingness to work with product, sales and marketing teams to understand their needs.

We are headquartered in Boulder, Colorado, and as a distributed company have employees all over the US. Ultimately we are looking for the right person. Light travel may be required for meetings in our intergalactic HQ in Boulder, or meeting with fellow developers in other locations.
