Job Summary

Red Hat Cloud Engineering is seeking a Python developer with broad software engineering experiences and an interest in Infrastructure-as-a-Service to join their OpenStack team.

In this role, you will be expected to contribute generally to the OpenStack effort upstream, including a role in defining the architecture of new projects or features, and developing those from inception to inclusion upstream.

Red Hat engineers work independently but in tight collaboration with other members of a globally-distributed team and with upstream developers. Candidates should be passionate about cutting edge software development and open source.

Red Hat has offices across North America and well-qualified, home-based candidates in the US will also be considered.

Primary Job Responsibilities

  • Focus on the management aspects of the OpenStack project with the goal of reducing the effort and expertise needed to deploy and maintain a production installation of OpenStack
  • Developing solutions for provisioning OpenStack services and their underlying nodes, configuration management, monitoring, alerting and capacity planning

Required Skills

  • 7+ years of significant software development experience
  • Considerable Python experience is strongly preferred
  • Deep experience with multiple programming languages: Python, C, Java, Ruby
  • Deep understanding of cloud computing and Infrastructure-as-a-Service
  • A passion for open source software development
  • A keen eye for good architecture and the ability to develop new architectures
  • Focus on test driven development with good knowledge of unit testing frameworks and methodologies
  • Experience with a DevOps style process in production is preferred
  • Knowledge of the current landscape of open source and proprietary management projects and products
  • Bachelor's degree in computer science; a computer engineering or technology-related discipline is preferred
