Solinea is actively seeking developer to work on our OpenStack cloud management product (www.solinea.com/goldstone). The ideal candidate will have a proven track record of cloud, open source, virtualization, real-time data, and API development.

We are a seasoned team of developers, engineers, and consultants who have come together from well known cloud and virtualization companies to bring manageability to the OpenStack ecosystem. Solinea is a member of the OpenStack Foundation, and you will be making contributions to the OpenStack code base. We have offices in downtown Berkeley, as well as drop-in locations in San Francisco and Santa Clara, but we are also committed to successful distributed teaming through agile development practices and open communications.

This position is only open to candidates based in and eligible to work in the United States.

Description & Responsibilities:

As a backend developer at Solinea you will be primarily working on our flagship product (goldstone) from the API back, as well as committing to the OpenStack codebase. You will work in a sprint-based agile development team, and will participate in the full cycle including release/sprint planning, feature design, story definition, daily standups, development, testing, code review, and release packaging. You will also work on the automated build, test and package environment as well as participate in maintenance of the development lab. Most of all, you will have the opportunity to have fun, be challenged, and grow as a developer while creating a game-changing product.

Here is a typical sprint from the backend developer perspective:

  • Define the sprint theme: agentless real-time and historical node availability
  • Work out the feature design, create stories and provide estimates
  • Design spike/POC for new technologies (i.e. LogStash to Celery task interface)
  • Branch, Develop story, develop tests
  • Submit for pull request for code review
  • Code review other pull requests
  • Tune up automated test/build/pkg environment
  • Fix a couple bugs
  • Repeat until sprint complete
  • Participate in daily standups
  • Participate in sprint close and retrospective


The goldstone backend technology stack primarily consists of Python, Django, Celery, Redis, LogStash, and ElasticSearch. You should be an expert-level developer in the Python/Django ecosystem, and have a passion for researching new programming languages, technologies, and software/data/search design strategies.

  • 5+ years Python/Django development experience
  • 2+ years experience with Unix/Linux/Cloud system administration (tuning, diagnostics, etc.)
  • 1+ year experience with OpenStack
  • API design and development experience
  • Async/event driven development experience (Celery/Redis)
  • Unit and integration test writing, code review, and agile participation
  • JIRA, Confluence, Bamboo/Jenkins, Stash/Git experience
  • Excellent written and verbal communications skills
  • Strong desire to learn new technologies, show initiative, prioritize, deliver, collaborate, and contribute

  • Systems automation technologies (puppet, chef, salt, etc.)
  • Big Data
  • Machine learning, statistics, probability
  • Javascript, go, Scala experience

BS Computer Science, Information Technology or related field, or experience equivalent
