We're looking for a talented Django developer, who understands what makes great (and maintainable) code, has a feel for what makes for good user interactions, and has excellent communication skills. Experience with software-as-a-service sites or working at a startup is ideal.

Our tech stack

Python, Django, Celery, Sass, Redis, Memcached, Solr, Nginx, Gunicorn, Varnish, Ansible, Github, Linode

How we work remotely

Everyone in the company knows how to use Git, and we communicate regularly using Trello, Flowdock, and Skype. We currently work with a team of remote developers, editors and writers, in addition to seven full-time team members in our New York office.


  • Substantial Django experience, creating and running production-level sites
  • Passionate about writing great code and an adherent to the Zen of Python
  • Facility with Javascript and CSS, and the issues in writing clear, maintainable and testable front-end code
  • Experience working in a fast paced development environment with testing, continuous integration and multiple daily deployments
  • Excellent communication skills and ability to work closely with designers and product managers
  • Interested in the content of what we do, particularly journalism, news, media, and social media


  • Experience running Celery and/or Solr in production
  • Familiarity with managing Linux servers especially with tools such as Ansible
