Software Development

2014-06-11 21:26

SkyVerge is looking for part-time Rails contractors with at least 10 available hours per week to join our team. You'll be responsible for contributing to projects that already power thousands of online stores (and growing), helping to build new products, and making sure that the ones we already offer stay golden.

Ideally, we'd like to find some great developers to work with on an on-going basis. The possibility of this evolving into a larger time commitment per week or a full-time position as we grow is up to you if you're looking for it - we have no shortage of work that needs to be done!

Here are some of the major responsibilities and benefits for this position:

  • Maintaining existing app compatibility and squashing bugs
  • Adding new features to existing apps
  • Building new apps from a spec
  • Using best practices for Ruby development and following our internal code standards
  • Proficient in Ruby / Rails, HTML/CSS, and CoffeeScript (Experience with Sidekiq, Slim, and ActiveAdmin is a plus)
  • Excellent communicators

We Offer...

  • Competitive rates with additional performance incentives for beating deadlines and/or meeting our quality standards
  • A friendly but fast-paced work environment that constantly offers opportunities for growth

Sound great so far? Keep Reading!

Experience building Rails apps is required for this position - we'd love to see samples of apps you've built start-to-finish. Our projects usually involve our entire development team, with one engineer as project lead. You'll be involved in either reviewing, fixing, or building apps from collaborative spec. We'll provide sample code and our framework, and we need developers that can understand our standards and hit the ground running.

About You

  • You take pride in committing clean, idiomatic ruby to GitHub (and can't wait to send us a link to your profile).
  • You love writing code that's clear, readable, and standards-compliant.
  • More importantly, you appreciate how beautiful a solution is when any customer can use it.
  • You look forward to working with people who love their work as much as you do.
  • You're a self-starter. This should be obvious, but when we move, you move. And we move fast. We need someone that's excited about building and maintaining cool apps, is dependable, and is easy to work with.
  • You're an excellent communicator, whether written, in person, or via video chat (native-level English fluency is required). You know that code is about communication and that explaining yourself clearly goes hand-in-hand.

About Us

  • We're passionate about eCommerce and developing software that helps businesses sell better.
  • We've developed several applications for 2 major eCommerce platforms, and are expanding rapidly
  • We prefer Macs to PCs, but think you should use whatever helps you be most productive
  • We provide some of the best customer support around for all of our products
  • We respect standards. All of our code follows best practices, as well as our internal code standards and framework.
  • We love to solve interesting problems in the simplest way possible.

Our Toolbox

You should be proficient in Ruby & building apps the Rails way, along with HTML/CSS/Sass/CoffeeScript. We also use Sidekiq, Slim, and Bootstrap, so familiarity with these is a plus.

Our team stays in touch primarily via HipChat/Slack, and Skype, so familiarity with any of these is helpful, but not required.

Other Position and Benefit Details

This is a part-time position with flexible hours (at least 10 per week) - we know your work will speak for itself with commits, issues closed, and wiki edits. The position could evolve into a full-time, salaried position as we grow. Following an interview, we'll ask for a quick sample project for which you'll be paid before we commit to working together regularly.

We offer performance-based incentives in addition to hourly rate for meeting our quality standards or for beating deadlines. We like working with people who take pride in their work and we love to applaud a job well done.
