As a product company, our software and data engineers are essential to our success. Working side-by-side with Product Owners, Quality Assurance Engineers, and Business Stakeholders, our Engineers are actively involved in the complete software and BI development life cycle in an agile environment including technical design, hands-on coding, unit testing, performance tuning, maintenance, test automation and deploys upgrades.

As a member of the BI team, the BI Analyst is passionate about data and turning it into advanced analytics driven solutions. The analyst is an expert at creating efficient SQL queries and using modern tools to create visual reports and interactive dashboards. Data science concepts are used to identify value from the treasure of data at Paylocity. This technical developer will be responsible for coding and maintaining the semantic layer and front end BI products to serve our external and internal customer needs.

Responsibilities and accountabilities:

  • Committed to understanding the various data sources and modeling efficient and scalable reporting marts.
  • Collaborate with the Product Team Lead and business to gather and define the business requirements, business definitions, process flows, dashboard design, and report design to create secured business intelligence solutions.
  • Responsible for data mapping and ETL/ELT for visualization.
  • Ability to analyze and dissect user requirements and build front-end BI applications according to specifications
  • Validate existing systems for data integrity, quality and accuracy and recommends improvements.
  • Actively participate in the Developers Community of Practice by driving new ideas, ingenuity and technologies.
  • Proven experience working on a team in a collaborative environment with a willingness to share ideas and an ability to complete tasks with high quality.
  • Continuously improve technical skills through training, seminars, webinars and self-directed research / investigation.
  • Demonstrated ability to be accountable and show ownership of a flagship product
  • Hard work, grit, gumption, determination and passion are a must!
  • Be an active participant in backlog grooming sessions, sprint demos and retrospectives.
  • Demonstrate enthusiasm and desire to work closely with principal engineers, developers, SMEs, QA engineers, product owners, business owners and product stakeholders on a day to day basis to get the job done.

Experience Requirements:

  • 3+ years of Business Intelligence analysis experience, including building ad-hoc reports and analytical solutions.
  • Proficiency in data movement frameworks using SSIS or similar tools.
  • 3+ years of using SQL Server (2008-2012) with expert level T-SQL experience and building stored prcedures, views and functions.
  • 3+ years of deep experience with the design and development of visualization solutions, including user maintenance, security laters and performance optimization.
  • Extensive experience creating advanced reports and dashboards by applying strong technical knowledge of features and functions of business intelligence tools.
  • Experience with HDFS, Hadoop, Pig and related Big Data technologies is a plus.
  • Experience in advanced development practices - like continuous integration, test-driven development, pair programing, refactoring - preferred.
  • Familiarity with creation and execution of automated test scripts preferred.
  • Experience in developing web payroll, HR, benefits, time clock or other financial products is a plus.
  • Exceptional communication skills, an energetic and positive attitude, strong team skills and an ability to mentor and coach people.
  • Experience identifying areas for improvement and in working with teams to implement best development practices.
  • Broad set of technical skills with demonstrated learning agility and intellectual curiosity.
  • Bachelor's degree in computer science or equivalent experience.
