Role Description:

CrossView’s MySQL DBA will participate in the design, implementation, optimization and ongoing administration of MySQL infrastructure and operations for both internal projects and customer projects. Works closely with development and professional service teams to deliver top-notch support for MySQL functionality, scalability, availability, performance and reliability for both internal and client deployments.

Primary Objectives and Responsibilities:

Include the following; other duties may be assigned:

  • Manages customer and internal team projects
  • Setup and troubleshoots failover and high availability setups
  • Conducts performance tuning to ensure the scalability, throughput and longevity of data intensive transactional applications
  • Initially performs, and longer term provides oversight for all MySQL database administration including installation, configuration, replication, backups
  • Works with engineering group and ensure database changes are in-line with operational standards and meet the strategies needed to scale
  • Develops and maintains database monitoring tools and automation systems
  • Writes scripts to automate manual administrative tasks
  • Maintains and creates documentation for HOWTOs, standards and best practices

Education and Experience Required:

This position requires a Bachelor’s degree Computer Science, Engineering or a related field and 7-10 years’ experience supporting database platforms for online service businesses. The incumbent in this role demonstrates a strong understanding of complex database and server technologies, knowledge of MySQL internals, InnoDB and myISAM storage engines. Additionally the following competencies are required:

  • Strong MySQL performance tuning skills
  • Experience with database performance tuning and capacity planning
  • Advanced knowledge in troubleshooting techniques at the server and database level
  • Advanced knowledge in setting up failover and high availability setups
  • Ability to plan for and implement disaster recovery
  • Working knowledge of implementation, restoration and the pros and cons of various backup strategies
  • Demonstrable ability to drive best practices in monitoring MySQL databases with the ability to identify key performance indicators and put facilities in place to alarm on-call personnel for actionable events
  • Expert level knowledge of Linux or Unix like operation systems strongly preferred
  • Excellent interpersonal skills; strong verbal and written communication skills
  • Experience with Amazon EC2 deployment of MySQL a plus DB2 experience a plus

Location / Travel Requirement:

We have 3 formal office locations in Research Triangle Park, NC, Toronto, ON and Noida, India. Our employees are not required to live near our office locations and can work remotely. There is a 20% travel requirement for this position.
