Description

Kickboard is changing the way teachers measure their impact in the classroom.

We've been recognized numerous times as leading innovators in education reform...

(We were formerly known as Drop the Chalk)

... but in our opinion, we've only scratched the surface. We're building a compelling user experience to equip teachers with action-oriented charts, graphs and dashboards, enabling them to make smarter, real-time decisions about what to reteach, who to reteach, and how student behavior affects academic achievement.

And that's where you come in.

We’re looking for a talented software engineer to play a meaningful role in building the first-of-its-kind analytics platform for schools. You’ll bring a passion for good software design and data visualization, along with the desire to constantly expand your development skills along the way.

The server side application is written in PHP using Zend Framework, with plenty of Javascript, jQuery, and AJAX on the client side. Ability to design and understand database schema diagrams and write SQL code is also a must. We use an agile development methodology and take customer feedback seriously.

Qualifications

  • Several years of demonstrable experience developing dynamic web applications
  • Mastery of PHP or similar object-oriented programming language, preferably with Zend Framework
  • Familiarity with common Javascript frameworks and libraries, preferably jQuery or Angular.js
  • Familiarity with HTML5 and CSS
  • Familiarity with MySQL, or similar RDBMS, creating schemas and writing queries
  • Familiarity with Linux, administration experience preferred

Responsibilities

  • Implement and maintain PHP code
  • Integrate HTML/CSS into application, with Javascript as necessary
  • Build limited-scope technical requirements and specifications for claimed projects
  • Participate in and contribute to sprint planning

Kickboard is based in New Orleans (epicenter of education reform). Ideally, you'll be based here, but we're willing to consider truly exceptional remote candidates with a strong track record of working on a distributed team.
