Candidates can live anywhere in the continental United States although applicants should understand that there will be some travel to Louisville, Washington, DC and at times to our client locations.


Mission Data LLC is looking for a talented User Experience Designer to join our strong and diverse team. We spend our days architecting, designing and developing world-class web and mobile applications that drive revenue and growth for our clients. In addition to collaborating with our team creating and building engaging, efficient, usable and tested experiences, we’d like help defining the role and establishing the vision for how it will grow over time.

Mission Data is a small and agile company where everyone wears multiple hats. While you will be primarily focused on UX research, prototyping and high-level application design, we may also need you to handle other responsibilities based on company workload. While we don’t need you to be an expert in front-end development, at minimum you should have a moderate understanding of HTML and CSS and some experience in designing and developing for the web (even if it’s just your personal website).


A Good Candidate:

  • Seeks to understand target audiences, user behaviors, needs and expectations of a potentially diverse group of users related to a given project
  • Conducts interviews with clients, stakeholders, and customers to inform application design, structure, hierarchy and functionality
  • Processes research and testing into incremental improvements for interactions and application flows, ensuring the best possible experience
  • Identifies UX gaps as areas for improvement and prioritizes those needs according to business goals and user needs
  • Thinks mobile-first and content-first when architecting applications
  • Has a solid understanding of HTML and CSS
  • Is self-motivated and capable of working effectively without direct oversight
  • Works seamlessly with colleagues and clients who may be located in other geographies
  • Can manage multiple projects simultaneously and meet key deadlines
  • Can work comfortably alongside developers and designers in an agile environment
  • Has a solid portfolio or work samples that display UX designs

A Great Candidate:

  • Is a highly skilled visual designer capable of clearly, succinctly, and professionally communicating complex ideas and concepts to various stakeholders and bringing interactions to life
  • Has experience with A/B and multivariate optimization tests
  • Wants to learn, grow, and help others advance in the web and UX community and is an active participant
  • Understands how to work with Git or other revision control software.
  • Knows what Sass is, has looked inside a Ruby on Rails application, and has written some JavaScript

Our Perfect Candidate:

  • Has a basic understanding of back-end technologies (particularly Rails) to creatively solve problems and implement solutions
  • Has significant web development skills, including HTML, CSS/Sass and JavaScript
