VIP PetCare is currently seeking to add a new member to our Rails team. We are looking for a Ruby on Rails developer with: solid ruby fundamentals, ability to follow team coding standards, knowledge of core OOP philosophies, and interested in helping not only with coding, but designing features.

VIP started over 18 years ago in the owner’s garage and has since grown into a nationally recognized community veterinary clinic provider. We are fully profitable with no lingering doubts of depleting funds. We are rapidly growing, with a large customer base and aggressively expanding into new markets.

We are looking for the right developer whom cannot only bring their coding skills to the table, but also their knowledge of design and integration. We are open to junior level developers, but prefer an intermediate to senior level person. This is not a mentoring gig.

The right fit will have the following talents:

  • Minimum of 2 years related ruby on rails experience
  • Basic git knowledge (creating branches, merging branches, cherry picking commits, reverting commits, stashing, squash merging, tagging, etc.)
  • Experience writing and working with APIs
  • Working with JSON
  • Comfortable with Coffeescript and Javascript
  • Postgres
  • Great communicator (we are remote after all)

Awesome if you have experience with . . .

  • Chef
  • jRuby 1.7.x
  • Amazon AWS (EC2 & S3 primarily)
  • Ubuntu server setup (web servers, db servers, load balancers etc.)
  • Understanding of iOS and other mobile platforms
  • Experience with php and wordpress

We leverage scrum and schedule one week sprint iterations. We have daily standup meetings at 9:30am PST and weekly sprint planning sessions. This developer will need to be available for at least 6 hours (preferably 8) during normal PST business hours and must be present for sprint planning sessions.

This is a contract position, and we are looking for at least 40 hours a week.
