Description

Inktank, Inc is seeking a “Community Manager” who will be the first line of interaction for the Ceph community to engage with both Inktank and the Ceph Open Source project. Your mission is to organize, educate, and empower all manner of Ceph enthusiasts (from developers to non-technical people and everything in between) to participate in the Ceph community and help spread the Ceph gospel. Your unbridled enthusiasm for Open Source and boundless energy should only be surpassed by your desire to “do what’s right for the community.”

Applicants should be recognized as highly organized, a gifted orator, and “tech savvy,” especially as it relates to Open Source. While previous experience in both Open Source and the storage industry would be helpful, we’re more interested in the right personality. If you can strike the right balance between “wacky individualism” and just “trying too hard” you’re the one we want.

Playing a crucial leadership role in the Ceph open source project, the Community Manager is responsible for developing and nurturing a vibrant, engaged community of contributors, advisers and advocates.

The Community Manager must be able to:

  • Effectively create and expand evangelism and content programs that generate interest and create opportunity for broad participation
  • Proactively build and maintain key relationships within the Ceph community
  • Regularly create content that highlights community news and recognizes contribution
  • Evangelize the project and its underlying technology – online and offline – to maximize interest and participation
  • Travel extensively (as much as 60% during heavy trade show season!)

Responsibilities:

  • Work closely with engineering, marketing, and sales teams to knit our community presence through all parts of the business.
  • Light infrastructure management (wiki, website, etc).
  • Give talks at conferences, meetups, and other events to educate and spread Ceph adoption.
  • Content generation including blogs, memes, videos, social media, and others.
  • First responder for all community questions on mailing list, irc, and social media outlets.

Required Skills and Experience * 3+ years of community management experience Experience with open source community processes and behaviors * Strong communication and presentation skills * Strong editorial or industry content creation skills * Strong technical acumen * Understanding of storage technology and the storage market * Ability to effectively represent the community’s interests while working with marketing, engineering, and business development organizations Strong analytical and organizational skills * A passion for community development!

Secondary Skills and Experience * Technical experience and Programming skills – Python, C++, Linux * A Computer Science, Journalism, Communications degree or relevant experience * Sales/business development experience * Working with distributed teams and/or open source projects
