Job description:

  • Manage cloud server networks and infrastructure in development and production environments
  • Build a platform that enables software engineers to self-service environments for testing and production and provides metrics to the organization as a whole
  • Provide a toolset that software engineers can use to continuously build, test, deploy, run, and support their systems
  • Work with a team to automate management and orchestration tasks, streamline processes and perform standard administration functions as needed
  • Monitor system performance, make recommendations to improve and implement system-wide changes to enhance overall system proficiency
  • Monitor network availability and performance
  • Assist in formulating security mechanisms to prevent, detect and respond to internal and external security threats
  • Stay apprised of new developments in both AWS, server infrastructure setups, security bulletins, and other related server/operations news to help in determining how and when those would affect and/or improve our architecture
  • Handle production support issues as they arise. Participate in a 24/7 on-call rotation
  • Knowledge of and active participation in the Agile scrum process

Required skills and traits:

  • Five years’ experience in the following areas
  • Experience with Linux system administration and automation
  • Experience with provisioning and deployment automation tools (Chef and Terraform)
  • Experience with cloud-based deployments
  • Experience with S3, Glacier, RDS, EBS, IAM, ElasticCache, and other AWS technologies.
  • Experience with logging management tools, such as logrotate, Logstash, and Kibana
  • Experience with process management software, such as Monit and Consul
  • Experience with Elastic Search (and the entire Elastic Stack) provisioning and setup
  • Familiar with security concerns (server hardening, two factor authentication, SSL, VPN)
  • Experience in building and optimizing high-availability distributed systems
  • Scripting experience in languages such as Ruby, Bash, Perl and/or Python
  • Must be a self-starter and possess very good analytical skills
  • Possesses ability to work in an agile environment with minimum guidance
  • Passion for security is a major plus
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills
  • Strong work ethic and a can-do attitude

Recommended education and experience:

  • Bachelors or Masters’ degree, preferably in CS or related discipline
