The Role

The Linux Foundation is seeking a web application developer to assist in developing and maintaining web properties that are part of the Linux Foundation's network of sites and web applications. We are looking for a developer who is dedicated, driven, and, passionate about their work. We are looking for an experienced full-stack Node.js developer. The developer should be able to work with the full stack and learn quickly. While the position is primarily back end, you will also be expected to be comfortable in the front end. At the Linux Foundation, we prize technologists who have an excitement for our mission and are dedicated to growing their skills.

We are a fast moving team with a high tempo, we support a wide range of web properties and you need to be okay with expanding your skillset and range. Our team is from all over North America (US and Canada) and you must be comfortable working remotely in a team. This is a non-contract full time position. While the position is posted for Portland, since we are a fully remote team the role can be performed anywhere in the US, Canada or UK

  • At least 2 years of experience working with Node.js
  • Skilled in modern source control management with Git
  • Understands web application vulnerabilities and is able to write secure code
  • Proficiency with HTML5 & CSS Front-End libraries such as BootstrapProficiency with JavaScript / jQuery and Frameworks such as Angular, React, Express, or Ember
  • Experience with tools such as Grunt, Gulp or Webpack
  • Knowledge of SASS / LESS and how to compile and manage frameworks based upon them
  • Javascript / NodeJS / ECMAScript best practices and standards
  • Responsive design and cross browser compatibility/testing
  • Experience using Node.js test frameworks and automated user testing frameworks
  • Good communication and analytical skills
  • Excellent time management skills and able to work remotely
  • Experience with Continuous Integration practices
  • Able to work individually or as part of a larger team
  • Must be legally allowed to work in in their country of residence

Nice To Have

  • Experience with AWS products and cloud based application architecture
  • Familiarity with Gerrit
  • Python development skills
  • PHP development skills
  • You consider yourself a polyglot when it comes to learning new programming languages
  • Familiarity with Docker
  • Creating multilingual websites
