Software Development

2013-07-03 21:00

At EllisLab we make ExpressionEngine, a world class content publishing platform that impacts the lives of millions of people everyday. We are an intentionally small company that loves improving the lives of web professionals. EllisLab is looking for two exceptional developers who enjoy making and using things on the web.

EllisLab values T-Shaped people. You have a broad flexible skill set that lets you contribute with experts in a variety of disciplines, but have a deep expert knowledge of your core competency, and you have the self-awareness to know what it is. You love building software that makes a difference in the world. You understand how interconnected your code and ability to work with a team are in making the user’s experience perfect. You are self-motivated and self-directing and you don’t need to have your hand held. Working from “home” appeals to you and you are legally able to work in the United States.

You hear phrases like “that’s a complex problem” and yawn because you have complexity’s number. You are driven to make the seemingly impossible into something elegant and usable, and you know that you are capable because you have a history of following your effort. This attitude shows in your daily life, not just your code.

  • Performance and user experience oriented
  • Proficiency with PHP, MySQL, and Javascript (with and without jQuery)
  • Comfortable with various version control systems (git, svn, mercurial)
  • Solid understanding of Computer Science fundamentals
  • Familiar with all sorts of CMSs, “platforms”, frameworks, publishing tools

Exceptional, but Optional:

  • Have written an ExpressionEngine Add-on
  • Have written a CodeIgniter application
  • Know at least 10 things you want to improve in ExpressionEngine right now.
  • Proficiency in other scripting languages (Python, Ruby, etc)
  • Experience with mobile development
  • Knowledge of uncommon APIs, such as IE’s TextRange
  • Have shipped a product of any kind that required consistent follow through

EllisLab provides health benefits and 401k, work from home, flexible personal time, computer/software allowance, and absolutely no being micro-managed by cubicle super-villains.
