About Us

At Chalk + Chisel, we devise, design and develop well-crafted digital products to help our clients create authentic experiences.

We collaborate with brands across entertainment, lifestyle and non-profit industries. Our clients include Discovery Communications, NASA, NikeNYC, Cava Grill, the LIVESTRONG Foundation and others.

We believe that digital products—from the personal experience of an app, to the shared experience of a live event—will increasingly be a foundation for human connections.

On each project, our Account Strategy team frames our understanding of client problems, articulating the goals we pursue and the strategies that will guide us. Our Creative team leads our exploration of solutions, materializing the vision we'll pursue. Our Interactive team (the home of a Senior Interactive Developer) breathes life into the designed product, and is responsible for realizing the vision.

About the Position

At Chalk + Chisel, a Senior Interactive Developer is a leader. You'll work with our interactive team to determine the best technical approach, then take the lead as you and other developers practice your craft. You'll be responsible for ensuring interactive team members contribute to each project's success – tracking deadlines and team progress, and communicating with the larger team.

We've built a unique development team with skills and experience ranging from Django-based websites to iOS apps to interactive physical installations. We all develop comfortably in JavaScript building Node.js backends and React-based products for web and mobile devices. We're looking to expand that team.

You'll get to choose and work with new technologies, like React Native and GraphQL, on a team that thrives on continuous evolution.

  • Develop. Write code, build systems and devise solutions. Consider the strategic, design and technology goals of a project.
  • Lead. Manage the development process and work with other developers to ensure their work is in support of a larger goal.
  • Collaborate. Engage with account strategists and designers. Keep them up-to-date on progress. Communicate ideas, explain technical challenges and propose alternatives.
  • Strive. Aim to produce high quality work and seek to improve the development process.

About You

  • Solid foundation as a web and/or mobile developer.
  • Experience working with a cross-functional team and managing other developers.
  • Open to using new technologies and approaches – not because they're novel, but because they can make the work better.
  • Familiarity with technologies like Node.js, React, ES2015 (or similar technologies, frameworks and languages).
  • Comfortable working on both front-end and back-end problems, even if you prefer one more.
  • You can debug a problem (even if it's not code you wrote).
  • Your peers might call you a "hard worker", but you have a life outside of code.

The Location

  • We'll consider all applicants, but have a strong preference for those who can join us in our office overlooking Baltimore's Inner Harbor.
  • Remote employees will be asked to visit the team in Baltimore a few times a year.

  • A salary that matches the position and your ability.
  • You’re invited to participate in a 401(k) retirement plan with matching.
  • A healthcare stipend.
  • Paid vacation, paid holidays, and lunch (most days) in our Baltimore office.
  • We work to find and keep interesting clients.
  • You join a team that’s thoughtful, dedicated and passionate.
