Vox is a technology-driven media company. Our mission is to empower the most talented web voices and their audiences with Chorus, our exceptional publishing platform. We develop the highest quality content, conversations, and applications for an audience of over 30 million passionate people around the world.

We got our start innovating in sports media with SB Nation, the largest and fastest-growing network of fan-centric online sports communities. Then we moved into consumer technology news with The Verge and video games with Polygon. It is an exciting time to be at Vox Media. Come join us.

We're seeking an outstanding front-end engineer. You’ll join our Ad Products team on the forefront of re-imagining advertising on the Internet, collaborating with visual designers and back-end developers in an iterative, fast-paced environment to conceptualize new advertising offerings and execute custom advertising campaigns using JavaScript, HTML, and CSS.

Ad Products is neither a bunch of Mad Men suits nor a department of banner-crankers in the basement; it is a tight, cross-functional team of designers and engineers, a core part of the larger Vox product team, and critical to the success of our company. Your work will range from architecting and developing reusable front-end frameworks of standard Vox ad products to collaborating with the talented people on your team to explore, concept, prototype, and build the products that enable Vox to make money and grow.

You’re a friendly, creative, and pragmatic problem-solver with an obsessive attention to detail. Specifically, you have:

  • Expert-level proficiency coding HTML and CSS; intimate knowledge of cross-browser challenges and extensive experience developing standards-compliant markup and CSS-driven layouts that separate content from presentation
  • Experience coding readable, efficient, event-driven JavaScript, and developing Ajax interfaces, using frameworks like jQuery and Backbone.js
  • Experience integrating server-side code into front-end interfaces, using templating systems like ERB
  • A strong design sensibility; ability to take an established look and feel and style guidelines and run with it
  • A commitment to user-centered design, web standards, usability, and accessibility

Ideally, you also have:

  • Developed front-ends for Rails apps and applications for mobile devices
  • Experience doing server-side development or visual design
  • Worked on small development teams and with remote team members
  • A passion for online media and journalism/storytelling; and consumer technology/culture/science, sports, or video games

For more on the things we're building and problems we're solving, and what it's like to work on the Vox product team, see our product team blog and Press Reset, the documentary about the making of Polygon.

We encourage candidates of all experience levels to apply. If the above doesn't describe you, tell us why you would be great at Vox anyway.

About working at Vox Media: This is a permanent, full-time position with benefits based in Washington DC or New York (we'll consider outstanding remote candidates). Our investors include Accel Partners, Allen & Company, and Khosla Ventures (some of the same people who invested in Facebook and Etsy). You'll be joining a team of focused, hard-working, creative people who are passionate about creating for the web, building tools to foster online community, and doing work that's challenging and fun.
