Description

GitHub operates hundreds of servers, multiple networks, dozens of proprietary applications, and several third-party services that are critical to our business operations. Having complete visibility into the network, system, and application level activity is crucial to detecting unauthorized events and being able to support incident response investigations.

As a member GitHub's Security team you will be responsible for building security monitoring systems to collect and analyze activity from network packets to HTTP requests, and everything in between. The right candidate should understand the challenges faced with monitoring encrypted traffic, and knowing when and where to implement monitoring to maintain a balance between cost and visibility is crucial.

Required experience:

  • 5+ years professional work experience in systems and network security monitoring of a high-traffic web service built upon Linux and open sources technologies.
  • Extensive experience with security monitoring tools like Bro, SiLK/Netflow, Suricata, AOL Moloch, etc.
  • Experience with network tap hardware and tapping multiple 10Gb links.
  • Advance knowledge of network protocols including TCP/IP, DNS, SSH, TLS, SMTP, BGP etc.
  • Building security monitoring systems for both physical and cloud environments.
  • Experience using system automation tools like Puppet or Chef.
  • Development experience with Ruby/Rails, Python, C, and/or Shell.

Preferred experience:

  • Data integration experience working with high volume log event pipelines (e.g. OpenSOC).
  • Understanding of federated IAM and how to enrich event data with additional context to support analysis.
  • Working with AWS CloudTrail event logs.
  • Experience working with Git and GitHub.
