Software Development

Working with the YouCanBook.me engineering team would be a roller coaster of learning new technologies, building super fast, scalable applications, writing high quality, clean code, and seeing your work be used by literally millions of people every year.

We are looking for human beings rather than code robots. We want to hire people who can be part of our strong team culture - committed to building high quality, robust applications and products that other human beings are going to thank you for.

To hire you we will be looking for:

  • A proven track record of successful Java solutions
  • Evidence that your code can scale
  • Experience of using/building RESTful APIs

Technologies you will need to know*:

  • Core java skills: J2SE/J2EE, Servlets, JSP, JSTL, Hibernate, Tomcat
  • Supporting skills: Git, Maven, Ant, Markdown, OAuth, REST, Mysql, Debian, Redis
  • Familiarity with libraries: Apache Commons, Apache HTTP Client, Jackson, java.time (JSR 310)
  • Nice to have: Twilio APIs, Google APIs, WebDAV/CalDAV

*Please do not apply if you can't tick pretty much all of these boxes - we will be asking you detailed questions and ask you to do some coding exercises for us. If you'd love to work for us but feel you'd suit a more senior role, or have any other questions, then email us separately

You’re an imaginative person with great communication skills, and you get a kick from working in an international environment. You instinctively maintain excellent documentation about all the configuration you create and actively seek interaction with the rest of the team to empower those around you.

We're not dogmatic about it, but you are probably:

  • Happier with a command line than a mouse
  • Have participated in more than one open source project
  • Evangelise about IT and STEM as a career choice for young people
